Mangkon Hostel was good value for us, though we didn't luck out with our room. We stayed three nights in December 2025, in a private room with two single beds. It was spacious, with a closet and bedside table, and the wifi worked well. We had room V1, where the AC worked very well. Our friends in V3 said theirs wasn't as effective. The V rooms face a busy street, with traffic and construction noise until 1:30AM, while the A rooms face a quieter street. We still managed to get some sleep. Its location right by Chinatown makes it easy to go out for dinner. The hostel is also a 15-minute walk from a metro station or a ferry station, which worked well for exploring. There was a large towel per person. Bathrooms are shared and fairly clean, but bring or buy sandals for the shower. Shampoo and hand soap were provided on the women's side, and shampoo and body wash on the men's side. The showers had a good range of temperature and pressure. Check that your toilet has paper before sitting down. The common area had seating, a small kitchen, and a balcony. The fridge was large, with labels provided. There were forks, spoons, a few plates, and a couple of bowls, but no cups. I brought instant coffee and drank it from a bowl. There was a clean water dispenser with hot and cold water, though the hot water wasn't working on Day 2, so we microwaved cold water instead. You can buy coffee at the counter downstairs.

One of my favorite places in Bangkok, with a great location near a pier and MRT station. There's a fun spot at the pier to feed the fish, and good food all around. The hotel is nice and the price is fair. I recommend it! :)

The hotel itself was comfortable, well equipped, and had convenient facilities, but the stay was ruined by the lack of noise control. Some foreign guests were drunk, blasting music, shouting, and banging on walls between 1AM and 3AM, despite the stated quiet hours of 10 PM-6AM. They seemed completely unaware that others were staying there and showed no basic courtesy. There was no staff on duty at night, so the noise went on for hours without intervention. If you value peace and rest, this place can be extremely frustrating.

We stayed at the hostel for about nine days. It was really nice, and probably the best choice we could have made for our time in Bangkok.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and drinking water was available for refilling bottles. The shared bathroom was spacious and clean, with several shower stalls. Wifi dropped out now and then, but only for a few seconds. The room was large for the price and within easy walking distance of Chinatown. Wat Arun and the other waterfront temples are farther away, though we enjoyed the walk despite the distance. It looked like luggage could be left with staff, but we didn't use that service, so I can't say what it costs.
