Marsi Hotel @ Bangchak

The metro-facing side is quiet, but rooms on the opposite side get traffic noise from cars and bikes right inside. I’m a light sleeper and couldn’t sleep at all, which wrecked the whole day. I switched rooms to the other side of the building. The hotel is right by the metro, with a 7-11 and a few cafés nearby. Even so, I wouldn’t book it again.

The staff were terrific and happy to help with anything. It’s a five-minute walk to Bang Chak BTS, a 7 eleven, and restaurants. The hotel is clean and comfortable, with competitive prices. The pool is small in depth, but fine for laps or cooling off. There’s a nice Japanese restaurant, though no room service. The only noise I noticed was from emergency vehicles going to the hospital, and it wasn’t too frequent.

I stayed several days, and won’t be back. A hotel should let you sleep until 10, but here the rooms barely block noise and staff don’t seem to be kept in check. Nearly every morning at 7 a.m., cleaning maids woke me by opening rooms of early leavers, chatting, calling reception, and vacuuming with doors left open. The nearby hospital also meant hearing sirens three or four times a night. Getting everyday supplies is inconvenient. BTS Bang Chak is a 10-minute walk, but the nearest 7/11, Tops, or Lotus is about 20 minutes away. For a city hotel that’s a lot, and the walking routes are narrow and poorly built. There’s free coffee, but the two of us who drank it both got throat infections, so it doesn’t seem well maintained. They charge over 3% for card payments and ask for a 500 baht deposit. There’s no fitness room, and the pool is in very poor condition. Cheaper, better hotels are nearby, especially one BTS stop farther out at Onnut or Punnawithi.

The rooms are good, the bed is very comfortable, and the location is excellent for the expressway and BTS. Those positives kept me here for months, usually five to seven nights a month for company meetings. I asked about a corporate rate because I stayed for work, but was told it only applied to seven to ten consecutive nights. I accepted that and kept paying the higher rate. What changed my mind was the experience on my most recent visit. Cannabis smoke in the corridors reached my room more than once, and late guests shouted in the hallway around 1-2 a.m. and disturbed my sleep. I reported it the next morning and asked to change rooms, but got no apology and an unfriendly response. I checked out the next day and spent the remaining three nights elsewhere. Over time, other charges have added to my disappointment: 500 THB for check-in before 2:00 p.m., a 3% credit card surcharge, and a required 500 THB cash deposit at check-in. I’ve also often found that staff rarely smile or seem service-minded. The way immediate problems were handled, along with the overall guest experience, needs significant improvement. I’ve decided another hotel is a better choice.
