Nouvo City Hotel

We returned for another night after Chiang Mai and Phuket, and the service was just as good. The staff were welcoming and polite throughout both stays, always ready to help. If I go back to Bangkok, I’d stay here again. During our five days over Christmas, everything started smoothly: porters took our suitcases when the taxi arrived, and reception checked us in quickly. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable, and the extra sofas were welcome after a long, hot day out. Breakfast was fantastic, with an incredible selection of Thai and Western food and drinks, including waffles and maple syrup. There was an egg station chef who could cook whatever you wanted, and the food was halal certified. Dinner at Sara Restaurant was also top quality, with something to suit different tastes. The hotel is in the Old City, around a 30-minute walk from many of Bangkok’s main attractions and less than 10 minutes from Khao San Road. Tuk-tuks are easy to find at the street corner just outside. There’s a nice gym by the rooftop pool, plus a spa with lots of treatments.

The two pools were clean and inviting after a day of sightseeing, and there are free water fountains around the hotel, a great way to cut down on single-use bottles. Our room was clean, the beds comfortable, and the breakfast had an impressive range and quality. Staff were great, and the area felt safe and quiet but still lively, with a 711 next door. We had a good three-night stay. Ours was a superior twin, and we hadn’t realized there was no window apart from a small frosted one in the bathroom. That didn’t bother us, though Agoda’s description was a little misleading. There’s also a safe in the room. We’d return if we were in the area again.

The staff were consistently friendly, polite and helpful, which made a real difference. Nouvo City Hotel is close to Khaosan Road in Samsen, near the heart of old Bangkok, and well placed for exploring. It’s a good-value, comfortable option for budget visitors, though the building has an early-2000s look and could use some modernization. Rooms are clean and maintained, with reliable hot water. The air conditioner was noisy and difficult to adjust, which could bother light sleepers. Facilities include a small pool, spa and gym. Breakfast is a fairly complete halal buffet, but the selection didn’t stand out.

The buffet breakfast was huge, and the pool area was nice. We had a large room with a comfortable bed and big bathroom. The window looked onto other buildings, though. Air con worked well. It’s about a 30-minute walk to the main attractions, while the river is only 10 minutes away, with a ferry from there if you want one.
