Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 20

Dear and Snack at reception made arriving late at night feel easy, with a warm welcome and helpful directions and recommendations. The hotel is clean, modern, and comfortable. It’s right in the center of Sukhumvit, with shopping malls, restaurants, and plenty of other things close by, which made it convenient for exploring and shopping.

We liked that the hotel was clean and nice, and our deluxe room, which was upgraded to executive, had enough space for three. The bathtub was much higher than I expected: at my Asian height of 5'3", it came above my knee, so we had to ask for a stepping stool. I wouldn’t recommend this room for seniors because of the fall risk. I should have booked an accessible room, but didn’t expect the tub to be that high. 😅 Getting around takes a little planning. The hotel’s free tuk-tuk runs every 30 minutes until 9pm and takes you to the Sukhumvit main road, around Soi 20 or Soi 18 near Asok BTS. From Soi 18 it’s about a 10-12 minute walk to Asok BTS, including 5 minutes along the main road and another 5-7 minutes up to the BTS platform. It isn’t far, but the heat can be exhausting. To get picked up from Soi 18, you have to call the hotel. They don’t take Viber, WhatsApp, or Line messages. I only had e-sim data, so I bought a 399 baht Thai SIM at 711 to make the call. There’s no shaded waiting area for hotel guests, though there is a 711 nearby. For tourists who are always on the go, there may be better options. If you’re a laid-back young traveller, this hotel could suit you.

The skybar is a lovely place to unwind after a day in Bangkok, with skyline views, good drinks, and a breeze. We also enjoyed relaxing in the executive lounge with snacks and drinks at the end of the day. The staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast buffet was great, and the location was central and convenient for shopping, restaurants, street food, the BTS skytrain, and 7/11. It’s an older hotel, but still very nice, with comfortable rooms and beds and generally great service. The hotel kindly upgraded us to a suite so we could be on the same floor as the rest of our family. We enjoyed it a lot. The room itself was spacious, clean, and comfortable, though a little outdated, so I’d give the room four stars and the overall stay five. They even surprised us with rose petals and swan towels on the bed. ♥️

The gym is spacious, but it only has dumbbells up to 25 kg for full-body workouts. If you aren’t used to training just with dumbbells, you’ll need to adapt. I think there’s enough room to add a multi machine and make the gym more enjoyable. The neighborhood is quite lively, so make sure that suits you, since it may be disturbing if that isn’t what you’re looking for. The rooftop pool is amazing, with a stunning view, and breakfast was high quality, with fine products and lots of choice. Staff were competent and friendly, and the premium membership services and upgrades were much appreciated. A beautiful hotel and a very good experience. I’d happily come back next time!
