Pillow & Bread

We ended up moving to a place that cost more than twice as much because this one was fully booked, and honestly, this one was better. It’s great value and we slept well. The rooms have balconies, air conditioning and a fan, and the bathroom was clean. There’s free laundry, breakfast, coffee and tea all day, plus cute animals. The street food nearby was great, and you can walk to points of interest. It gets guests of all ages, including families, but still feels peaceful and respectful. The staff were so kind they let us check in at 7am. It was our first hostel, and we only tried it because of the good reviews. The setup feels professional, and it’s the best you can get at this price.

The staff were great, super friendly, and 7/11 is very close. There are bus stops nearby too. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the BTS station and maybe 20 minutes to Chatuchak weekend market. The place is generally clean and budget friendly, with coffee all day and toast with jam for breakfast. The room light was very dim. The fan was partly broken and wouldn’t stay in one position, and the air conditioner was missing its airflow vane, so sleeping with air blowing constantly wasn’t pleasant. The shower room was clean, but there’s no shampoo or shower gel, just a bar of soap. If that matters to you, bring small bottles of your own. In general it’s good if you’re not planning to spend much time in the room beyond sleeping.

There’s a large shared fridge by the stairs and a small kitchen downstairs with cutlery and things for making coffee. The washing machines are free to use. I found several supermarkets and restaurants within walking distance, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Most guests seemed to be younger foreigners, but the place felt quiet rather than especially social, which suited me. I was working remotely and needed reliable internet for meetings. It was generally good and I had no problems, though the speedtest result was lower than I expected. The common room has a large table and a few smaller ones, but the sockets are a bit far away. It’s supposedly open only until 20:00, which could be awkward for a late meeting, though I’m not sure if they actually lock it. There’s also a desk in the room. The furnishing is simple and a little dated, but clean. My room had AC, a fan, wardrobe, small desk lamp, plugs by the bed, and a small balcony. The bathroom has toilets on one side, shower cabins on the other, and sinks at the far end. The layout doesn’t offer much privacy, and there’s not enough space near the sink or in the showers for towels or cosmetics. There was no toilet paper in the stalls either, so you had to take it from the big roll outside. It was a good stay, though the bathroom setup and dated furnishings could be more comfortable.

The free washing machine was a big help, and the staff were kind. Breakfast was bread and jam as much as you wanted, with free coffee all day, though drinking water wasn’t provided. The room was clean but had an old smell. The shared bathroom was clean too, with good airflow and plenty of hot water. The pillows were very thin, so it would be nice to have two per person.
