S31 Sukhumvit Hotel

The city views from the 20th-floor rooms are lovely, and the bed is huge. Breakfast includes local choices like dumplings and steamed pork, which is a nice way to try street food. Emsphere is right across the road for food and shopping. The Blue Line train is about a 10-15 minute walk, and it’s easy to reach the main attractions. If your luggage isn’t too large, you could potentially take the train from the airport. A comfortable, really nice hotel.

The room and bathroom felt a little small, but the design is modern and practical. There’s a coffee machine, though no kettle. For the price, it’s good value, and I’d come back after my first stay. Getting around is easy, with BTS and MRT access, big malls, restaurants, and yoga studios close by. Breakfast runs from 6:00 to 10:00 am, and the buffet is excellent. The gym, sauna, and pool are spacious and free to use. One thing that bothered me at night was the traditional instrumental music in the hallways. It carried into my room until midnight, so I had to use earplugs.

The panoramic room was stunning and worth what I paid, and the staff were courteous. I stayed for 10 nights and did enjoy my time there, but I left feeling the service didn’t meet a 5-star standard. Complimentary water (not mineral), bathrobes, slippers, and concierge service were among the few details that did feel right. The bathroom sink was already broken when we checked in at 3 p.m. A few days later we found the kitchen sink was broken and leaking too, and the bathtub shower didn’t work. Bathroom supplies were also unreliable: a small mouthwash bottle was there for the first two days, disappeared, then came back only on our last day. We were given just one roll of single-ply toilet paper, which runs out quickly. Any hotel should provide at least two rolls, especially a 5-star one. At breakfast, everything was self-service and food came out very slowly. I only got a piece of watermelon after five days. Having two chefs make eggs or noodles to order sounds nice, but the lines got extremely long since they prepared just one egg at a time. In a hotel of this category, I’d expect a waiter to ask if guests want a hot drink. I was also surprised to find a teddy bear on the bed with no note or price. It seemed complimentary, as is common in a 5-star hotel, but the minibar price list said at the very bottom that it cost €15. The price should be shown next to it, or it should be clearly marked as a gift if it’s free. The concierge is downstairs, and the entrance door was opened for us inconsistently. Sometimes staff were talking among themselves, so automatic doors would have been more pleasant than having it opened only every other day. The beautiful room and the staff’s courtesy kept my rating from being much worse. I think the hotel should seriously reconsider its service level, which often felt more like 4-star service.

The room and bathroom in my Premier Single Room - VIP were spacious, with a nice view, and I got complimentary water each day. The bathroom, though, looked old and badly in need of renovation. The shower area felt unsafe because water could spread across the floor and make it slippery. I showered in the bath to keep water from flooding everywhere. I skipped the included breakfast because it didn’t look appealing. The location is very convenient in Sukhumvit, near Phrom Phong and Asok BTS Stations, with shops, restaurants, and nightlife close by. Concierge and housekeeping staff were kind, pleasant, and always helpful. Reception was a different story: the staff weren’t friendly, some were rude, and check-in and checkout were painfully slow. I often come to Bangkok for work and usually choose 5-star hotels. To me, this is closer to 4-star, and I prefer somewhere more luxurious. Still, I’d recommend it if you want a decent, clean, comfortable hotel in a good location.
