Vinary Hotel

The sink leaked and flooded the whole toilet. We didn’t tell the hotel during our stay because we’d booked through a booking site, and we didn’t want to risk being told to change hotels in the middle of the night, as other reviews described. The receptionist and staff were disrespectful even though we had paid for the reservation and had tipped for the service we requested on Day 1. The staff on Day 2 were a little warmer, but still less hospitable than receptionists at other hotels. It’s between two BTS stations, so there’s still a 10-15 minute walk, about 2-3 blocks. I wouldn’t recommend it, especially in rainy season.

I said hello to reception several times over three days and never got a reply. It felt like they thought letting me stay there was doing me a favor. I’ve traveled in Thailand three times, spending six months going from south to north and staying in hostels, guest houses, B&Bs, and hotels. I’ve never had hospitality this bad anywhere in the country. There’s an 8.2 rating posted in the elevator, and I think it’s fake.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the wifi was good enough for Netflix. The bed was comfortable, and the room had AC and an ensuite. Showers were only lukewarm, and the place could do with a coat of paint. It’s not a bad little hotel, depending on what you’re after. I stayed a couple of days after flying in to get over jetlag before heading elsewhere in Thailand. It’s close to the redlight district and accepts guests, so that may suit you if that’s what you want.

The main downside is the service. The receptionist was rude and short tempered, and despite putting the housekeeping notice on my door every day, my room was never cleaned. So there’s no housekeeping. The rooms are good value for the area, but check the AC unit when you arrive. Mine was filthy, which is usually why the AC is weak. Also have 500 baht in cash ready at check-in. I used a £20 note because I didn’t want to withdraw cash again.
