Villa Anchan

After living here for six months, I was ready to leave. It may be fine for a short stay, but it didn’t work well for me long term. The bathroom has double swinging doors instead of a proper door separating it from the rest of the unit, so when my partner or a guest was there, it felt like we were going to the bathroom together. I work from home, and children often ran around my unit playing and screaming. Some nights they were still at it after 11 pm. The key card system also switched off everything whenever I went to collect a delivery, and even shutting the door could nudge the card enough to turn off the lights. For the price, I found the place lacking: there’s no covered bike parking, the walls are thin, the kitchen is tiny, and the gym is useless without air conditioning.

The peaceful location, away from traffic, was a real plus. It’s a comfortable place with spacious, clean rooms, a pleasant pool, and a lovely garden full of flowers that’s kept in good shape. The staff are dedicated to looking after guests.

Things were quiet during the COVID period, and I’m not sure how things can move forward. About 80% of Phuket’s hotels were closed, waiting for tourists and for the government to reopen the country. It seemed we would have to keep waiting until the situation improved. On July 1, 2021, the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) approved entry without quarantine for foreigners who had received two vaccine doses, though they still needed a virus test. If they tested negative after seven days, they could travel around Thailand.
