The Cube Resort

This is a good choice if you’ll spend most of your time out and don’t need to relax at the hotel or use fancy facilities. I’d recommend the Cube Resort, which is absolutely comparable to Hop Inn and costs less. It’s a safe place, and the room was clean and cozy. The facilities are limited, but the basics are covered. The owner was lovely, kind, and helpful, and the staff had very good manners. It’s a 10-15 minute drive to the attractions in town.

It was nearly dark when I needed a room for the night, and the walk-in price was 650 baht. Check-in was quick and they speak English. I had a good-sized room in a semi-detached bungalow at the back, with a very clean, soft king bed, a good shower, and a refrigerator. No kettle or microwave, but plenty of sockets. There’s a balcony with a tiled seating area, and the outside area was very nice and clean. The room had satellite TV, but only Thai channels, and a menu for phone orders, also only in Thai. There’s a 7/11 two minutes away on the same side of the road, with chicken and noodles available there too. I thought it was good value. Very clean and quiet, parking beside the room, and wheelchair access.

The checkout treatment left a very sour impression. The official time is 11am, already early for Thailand, but at 10:30am, while I was loading a few things into the car, three different cleaning staff pressed me to leave, asking about the keycard and telling me to check out. Maybe it was a translation issue, but it felt like a demand or ultimatum, not a friendly question. If management is concerned about keycards not being returned, they could charge a 100-200B deposit, as many other places in Thailand do. We stayed on a weekday, so although parking seemed limited for the number of rooms, finding a spot wasn’t a problem. Parking can be hard in Chanthaburi, and old town hotels don’t have spaces, which is why we chose this place on the outskirts. The large bungalow complex feels like a little town and isn’t too far from town. Our standard room was a decent size, with a big fridge, cool AC, hot water shower, and small work desk, but no electric kettle. The bed and pillows were too firm for us, and we didn’t sleep well. The shower pressure kept changing from high to low, annoying but manageable. Hot water and coffee were provided in the morning, though the coffee was hard to find in a gazebo near bungalow B5. Reception only had hot water, no coffee. We paid 600B on Agoda, which felt high for what the place offers.

There’s a small breakfast area with coffee, chocolates, and crackers, and plenty of parking on site. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the simple resort has clean, spacious semi-detached rooms. It’s set back from the main street and feels secluded, with few shops within walking distance.
