The room was spacious, spotless, cozy, and well cared for, and the resort felt peaceful. The food was comforting and delicious after a stressful day. We only stayed one night at Azalea Village Wellness Resort & Residence, but felt welcome straight away. Jane made the stay especially memorable. We’d booked at 11pm at the last minute after an unexpected problem with our previous accommodation. She was patient, kind, reassuring, and clearly passionate about her work. When we arrived late at night, she was waiting in her pajamas to welcome and help us. Instead of asking for payment right away, she first focused on calming us down, offering drinks and fruit so we could settle in. Once we felt better, Jane and another female staff member calmly guided us through payment, then took us to our accommodation and assured us we could ask for anything we needed. Jane also arranged transportation for us despite the late booking. Her care, empathy, and attention made us feel safe and at ease, and we’ll always remember it. She deserves a raise! A special thanks as well to our driver, Uncle Ton. He picked us up very late and drove us to the airport the next day. He was warm, funny, and kind, and kept trying to communicate despite the language barrier. He made us laugh and made the ride comfortable. We’re grateful for everything and highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Chiang Dao.

The hotel has a lot going for it: a great location, cute design, and comfortable rooms. But management and staffing affected our stay, and the cost-cutting was noticeable. It seemed like only 4-5 staff were covering reception, food service, housekeeping, and everything else. On our first night, the window frame came completely loose when we tried to close it. The wood was clearly rotten from age and poor maintenance. Staff temporarily blocked the opening with wooden panels, then later unexpectedly asked us to pay for the damage. We refused because it was structural deterioration, not something we’d caused through misuse. Our room also hadn’t been cleaned when we returned on the second day. Reception then told us cleaning was only available on request, which hadn’t been explained at check-in or communicated ahead of time.

The breakfast was good, with an egg station for sunny-side-up eggs, omelets, or pan eggs. The bed was comfortable, the room pleasant, and the BBQ pork dinner set was clean, generous, and really satisfying. Everything worked fine during my stay, even though the cottages are a little old, which seemed typical for hotels outside the city center. I’d hesitated because of some negative reviews, but decided to give it a try. For the price, it turned out quite okay. The pool area is lovely, and the lobby looks straight out at Doi Chiang Dao. I enjoyed the stay and the view. The only downside was being right next to a temple, so events there can be heard quite clearly.

The staff were the best part of my stay. They were hospitable and had a great service attitude. The food was okay, and I liked the general feel of the decor, design, and garden. The room itself fell short of what I expected at this price. There was a large stain on the pillowcase that shouldn’t have been left for a guest. The shower was broken, and the water heater couldn’t be adjusted properly, so the water was either cold or very hot. The toilet and shower wet area also weren’t separated well. It wasn’t a terrible stay, but I can’t call it impressive either.

The staff were kind, attentive, and hardworking, and the rooms were lovely with extremely comfortable beds. My girlfriend and I had a wonderful stay at Azalea Village, especially enjoying the views and pool area. It may not suit anyone expecting luxury, though at about a quarter of the price of the area's luxury resorts, that seems fair.
