Capsule Hostel Chiangkhan

The location was very good for Walking Street and the Mekong River, and the room felt secure with its own lock plus key card access to the main entrance. The owner and staff communicated well and spoke a bit of English, which helped. Still, at 890bt for the double room, we didn’t feel the price was worth it. The bed was the main problem. It was two twin beds pushed together, which is common enough in Thailand, but these were easily the hardest beds we’ve ever tried to sleep on. We camp, backpack, and have slept on couches for years, and this was the hardest, least comfortable bed we’ve encountered in accommodation. Our first night was some of the worst sleep we’ve had in two months of traveling. The staff kindly brought two extra comforters for the second night. That helped us sleep better, though it was still not very comfortable. There was basically no WiFi or service in the room. I understand that can’t be guaranteed everywhere, but it was frustrating to have working WiFi and service in the lobby and not in our room. The room was also very dark, with dark walls and ceilings, one small window, and limited lighting. Without turning on what little lighting there was, it felt like a cave. There was a line of ants on the shower ceiling and a few elsewhere in the room. They didn’t bother us much, since ants are everywhere, but along with the room feeling like a boiler room when we came back before the AC started up with the key card, it’s not somewhere we’d recommend. Fixing some of these issues could make it a pretty nice stay. It wasn’t terrible, but because of the bed alone, I wouldn’t stay again for now.

It’s inexpensive for the area, with a clean bed, WiFi, a good location, and more privacy than a dorm. But there’s none of the usual hostel setup, like a place to hang out or an atmosphere that gets travelers meeting each other. A clean, good bed, and nothing more.

New, nice, clean, and convenient, with friendly staff and good service. It’s right beside a 7/11, though there’s no river view.
