The view of the river and mountains was beautiful, and I think that, along with the location, is what you’re paying for. You can get a similar view from the other riverside hotels, though. We rented a cottage for 1,200 baht, plus a 500 baht key deposit. The room was average and had a smell that cleared after we left the door open for a while. The sheets were clean, the AC worked, and the shower was hot. Nothing stood out, and for the price it was a bit disappointing. There wasn’t even free coffee in the room. I’ve stayed in much better rooms for half as much. I had a good stay, but I wouldn’t rent the cottage again.

The pool, prices, and location were great, with nice views too. The other guests were noisy, though. Kids ran down the halls and tried opening doors.

The views were the part I’ll remember most: sunrise from the room, clouds moving across the Mekong River and mountains, and a lovely sunset over the hills and water. You can see it all from the window or balcony. Chiang Khan Hill Resort & Hotel was peaceful and scenic, and the room was surprisingly affordable. The drive from Vientiane along the Thai side of the Mekong was beautiful and calm the whole way. If you want a quiet break surrounded by natural scenery, this was a refreshing stay and worth the trip.

A lovely hotel right beside Kaeng Kut Ku. The new buildings have recently been completed, and the surroundings are excellent, with river views. There’s a large parking area, nice bungalows on the property, and reasonable prices.
