This accommodation was noisy from both traffic and planes. And Chiang Mai in 2026 feels pretty dead to me, with little to see or do beyond one major shopping mall. Phuket, Pattaya and Bangkok feel much more vibrant.

Nimman Road is a handy base for exploring on foot or hiring a motorbike to see Chiang Mai. For riding, I recommend having an international driving license and wearing a helmet for safety. The bunk bed had more space than I expected and was comfortable to sleep in. During the day I could hear some motorbikes and pedestrians, and there was aircraft noise from the flight path, but it was acceptable and barely noticeable at night.

The beds were clean, the staff friendly, and Maya Mall is an easy walk away. I can't think of a better youth hostel.

Nimman is right outside, with cafes, restaurants and nightlife all around, but the hostel itself was peaceful enough for a good night's sleep. I had a comfortable stay in the mixed dorm. The pod was roomy and the AC worked well, though the bed felt a little hard. Lockers and privacy curtains were appreciated. I could work at the desk downstairs. There wasn’t much space, but it didn’t cause me any problems. Alexa Hostel Nimman was a great base for exploring the area, and I’d stay again.

There were far too many mosquitoes at this accommodation. Chiang Mai was nice just after COVID, but now it feels old and run down, with not much to see around here.
