This is a simple, no-frills budget guest house in the old city, and the room was basic but clean. What bothered me was how much sound came through. The walls are paper-thin, and even with the glass-louvred windows fully shut, you can hear everything. There isn’t much traffic in this part of the old city, but noise from the neighboring rooms was a problem. Even ordinary conversation carried loudly, before you get to the couple’s “exercises.” Most disturbing. I’d look for a guest house with full windows instead. There are plenty to choose from.

A modest, convenient guesthouse in a perfect spot in the Old City. The people running it were super respectful. It’s an easy place to drop your gear and head out, with amazing food options across the street and everything convenient very close by.

The area was quiet but still close enough to all the good restaurants, and there’s a vegan restaurant right in front of the hotel. We loved staying at ampawan house. The owners are extremely kind, and the place has good energy. Our room was clean, with a renovated shower and a comfortable bed.

It’s on a quiet lane, with no karaoke or noisy neighbors, and opposite a fantastic vegan cafe called Bodhi tree Café. We got room 7, which had a little sitting area in front that we practically had to ourselves. The place was basic and clean enough, though not spotless. I gather that’s common with basic hotels in Chiang Mai. Oddly, the final amount on agoda was cheaper than booking in person. The cheapest air-conditioned room I found was 450baht, while Ampawan was 490baht.

For the price, the double room with a shower and the location in the old town were hard to beat. It was quiet, too. The staff didn’t speak English very well, but they tried, and the lady was so sweet. Great value for money. Recommend!
