Baan Klang Wiang Hotel

They seem quite proud of the rooms, listed as 344 sqft, and want $382,839 USD for four nights. At that price, I think I'll just buy a house.

Breakfast was a lovely surprise. You choose from a menu the night before, and the portions were generous and everything tasted fresh. I liked the little touches, from fruit served on a leaf to marmalade in tiny sealed jars, thick cafe-style toast, and soft piano music. My watermelon even came cut into hearts. Baan Klang Wiang feels wonderfully quiet despite being only about a hundred metres from a main road. There’s a pretty garden around the pool, where you can also eat, and books and magazines in the lobby. The room was beautiful, mostly furnished in local style, with a huge four-poster bed. They’d left fresh flowers and mangosteens, and there’s an air purifier running in the corner, USB ports, a big shoehorn by the door and umbrellas near the entrance. We were welcomed with freshly squeezed orange juice, too. The owners and managers clearly care about the small details, and those are what stick with you.

We booked through Agoda, which seemed to have the best price at the time. The hotel does laundry for 60 baht per kilo, and Green Bamboo is within walking distance if you want a massage. The rooms are fantastic, breakfast has lots of variety, and the staff are friendly and outgoing. It’s also well placed for sightseeing and the night market. I really liked the hotel, including the fact that it seems to welcome mostly Asian travelers. One thing to know: they switch off the AC during room cleaning. We came back after being out for five hours to a very hot room and waited about an hour for it to cool down. The next day we hid the remote so it would stay on while we were out. Maybe that makes us bad people, but it worked great! We took the breakfast photo.

We were very satisfied overall. The room and the hotel itself were clean and nicely designed, and the staff were kind and helpful. There’s parking if you arrive by car. The old town location makes it easy to walk to temples, restaurants, evening food stalls by the gate, and both the Saturday and Sunday night markets. Our only drawbacks were the mosquitoes, which made us run from the pool, and noise from the AC.
