La Maison Verte Hostel

The room and toilet were okay, though I'd suggest getting a room with AC because the weather can burn your skin. The owner was really nice and accommodating, gave me recommendations for things to do in Chiang Mai, and even showed me an affordable bike rental. A very recommendable place for budget travelers.

We weren't even staying at Manny's guesthouse, but he invited us to hang out there after we met him at the bar where he plays at night. He was the most amazing host we've ever met, always going out of his way for his guests. You can tell he truly loves helping people. He used to be a tour guide, so he arranged our excursions at a discount and knows great spots for cheap, delicious food or something a little fancier. His French and English are so fluent, at a university level, that we had to be convinced he was really born in Thailand.

The beds are firm, which many travelers like, and the rooms are clean and nice and cold with the AC on. It's right inside the old town, close to everything you need. I mean, it's Chiang Mai, everything's close! They also run a nice little restaurant, so you don't have to head out.

For an all-you-can-eat breakfast, the price is a steal. You order what you want and it's cooked fresh, rather than picking from a typical buffet. There's a salad bar, omelettes, congee, pasta, French toast, real bacon, and sausage, all deliciously prepared. Drinks include basic drip coffee, Lipton Tea, guava juice, and water.
