Moose Hotel Nimman

I’d recommend this hotel and would stay again. It’s just behind the main street, so the hotel is quiet, while the location is excellent. The Japanese market area is a couple of alley blocks away, One Nimman is just across the intersection, and Nimman’s shops and restaurants and the white market are across the main road. Grab rides are easy to get. The lobby has a long table with rotating snacks like cookies and small bakery items, plus a coffee machine, all available to guests. Breakfast on the 7th floor was pretty decent for the price, with a semi-live egg and omelet station, and it runs until 11 a.m. With the lobby snacks too, the food offering is solid. Other hotels have charged me 500-800 baht for a similar breakfast, sometimes one that was only poor to mediocre. The room was the highlight for me. It had stylish design, backlit accent lighting, a long luggage rack, and a decent newer smart TV. A big stuffed moose greets you at the comfortable, slightly firm king bed, and could double as a hug pillow for solo travelers. There’s a good-sized safe. The bathroom is modern, with solid name-brand shower fixtures and good water pressure and temperature. A couple of bathroom fixtures need maintenance: the towel rack was starting to come loose from the wall, and a vanity door hinge had come off. Still, I was very happy with the room. The hotel has a cute moose theme, with stuffed moose and ornaments around the property. My main suggestion is to give staff better training in guest relations. They’re courteous, but not especially friendly, and don’t proactively greet guests coming in and out of the lobby. I noticed much the same in other departments. Better training here could be a cost-effective way to improve the guest experience. At my previous hotel in ao nang, the staff were so welcoming and friendly that they helped make up for some less-than-ideal room conditions.

We were pleasantly surprised by the rooms. Our family booked two: one for two people with a jacuzzi, and another for four with a kids’ slide. They were clean and comfortable, though there was a mild stale smell. Check-in was quick and the staff were friendly. The hotel is in a prime, easy-to-access spot near One Nimman, and it’s easy to call Grab rides. We loved the Moose 🫎 theme and would recommend staying here in Chiang Mai.

Moose Hotel’s location really is superb, just one street from One Nimman and surrounded by food options. But the road to the hotel is ALWAYS congested unless you travel around 2 p.m. or before 8 a.m. If you’re using a car or Grab, allow about 10 extra minutes to get in or out. The rooms were the problem. They were clean, but the shower was so difficult to use: the hot water cut in and out every 40 to 60 seconds, while the pressure shifted between light and moderate every few seconds. We had to deal with it twice a day for three days. We asked reception to send a plumber, but they said that’s just how the system is designed and water flows, with no alternative. There were also lots of small drain flies in the toilet. The room floors were very slippery, probably from waxing, so children and older people should be careful. We left our luggage at the hotel before a night flight and returned seven hours later. We were horrified to find the bags, still tagged, left beside the lift in an open lift lobby. There were CCTV cameras, but if something had been stolen, would we have had to review the footage to track down the luggage and person? I urge the hotel to reconsider this arrangement. The location is great, but I’d hesitate to return.

I was extremely disappointed with my stay. I paid the full amount in advance, yet poor hotel management caused problems that clearly weren’t the guest’s fault. The hotel didn’t take adequate responsibility or respond properly. As a paying customer, I expected a basic level of service and accountability, and didn’t get it. Breakfast was below my expectations, and there’s no swimming pool, which made the value for money even worse. Hospitality depends on how a hotel looks after its property and handles problems, and this hotel failed at both. I absolutely wouldn’t recommend it. I’d strongly suggest paying a little more for another property and a more reliable experience.
