For a first visit, the central Old Town location works well, with Akha Ama coffee, Suppatra blind massage, and the South Gate night food markets nearby. There’s also a grandmother grilling pork ribs across the main street most mornings, 25THB for two ribs and 5THB for sticky rice. Highly recommend, and apparently it’s the host’s favorite breakfast. The host is friendly, gives useful suggestions, and offers complimentary tea, coffee, local snacks, and biscuits. Our simple room was clean and had the basics: A/C, drinking water, and a private bathroom. It has an old-world feel, though it’s dated and could use renovation. The mattress was extremely soft, as were the pillows, which seemed old. There’s no lift and the wooden stairs are steep, especially up to the second floor. We had little heavy luggage, but the host seemed willing to help. I found the Old Town very touristy and wouldn’t stay there on a return trip.

Boy was a fantastic local guide, keeping us laughing while suggesting loads of things to do. Pissamorn House was peaceful, with large, clean rooms, and the Old Town location was perfect. We’d happily stay again.

Pissamorn was a warm host who always paused for a chat, checked in on guests, and greeted us with a smile. Tea, coffee, and snacks were available in the shared dining and sitting space. The four-room property is family-run, cozy, and very well placed by the Sunday Night Market, with Old City sights easy to reach. I was lucky to get a last-minute booking; the rooms were large and the beds comfortable. Just be aware housekeeping isn’t daily unless you ask, since this isn’t a full-service hotel. Also, the bathroom isn’t fully separated from the room, so you can hear everything. Keep that in mind if sharing with a travel companion. I’d still recommend staying with Pissamorn in Chiang Mai.

The central location, comfortable accommodations, and personal attention make Pissamorn House good value, and I found the stay memorable. Pissamorn, a lovely 73-year-old, is the heart of the guesthouse. She’s very talkative and engaging, shares interesting stories, and gives useful advice for exploring Chiang Mai. She’s also firm about policies and money. Some guests may find that strict, but I appreciated her clear communication and the order it brings. The place is spotless, cozy, and traditional in its Chiang Mai character, and it’s clear she takes pride in keeping it up. Her local knowledge and willingness to help with attractions or itinerary planning added a lot to my trip. Pissamorn House feels like a home away from home, and I’d recommend it to anyone who likes a charming, well-run, culturally immersive stay.

The location is right in the city center, with temples and restaurants easy to reach on foot. When I arrived, a very friendly gentleman welcomed me, explained how things worked, and helped with my luggage. My room was nicely vintage and well kept, and I really enjoyed the stay.
