Rainforest Chiangmai Hotel

The location was fine for us, just a short car ride to the night markets, China Town, and Festival center. We had a big room in the building beside the restaurant, and the staff were great, especially the woman at breakfast. The hotel could probably use a little updating, but at 1300 baht a night, with a good breakfast and two pools, it's hard to complain.

The wooden design is charming, and the sheltered garden by the bathroom is lovely. But our deluxe room felt closed in, with no windows, and the wooden doors let in every sound from the neighbours, crying children, and breakfast. Oddly, there was just one pair of slippers but two bathrobes. The bigger problem was the bathtub. We booked a deluxe room specifically because it featured one, but the hot-water system for filling the tubs was broken. Nobody told us up front, though the staff all seemed to know. Each day we were told it would be fixed, but nothing happened. Only on our last evening did we learn that all the rooms had the same bathtub problem. I ended up taking cold showers with no tub during winter in Thailand. The room was cold, too, and that hardly felt luxurious. It took a lot of back and forth, and I had to keep insisting for days before receiving a tiny bit of compensation. The staff didn't seem to care much. If you don't expect a deluxe room, you may have a lovely time. If that's what you booked, you could be disappointed. I hope they improve the service, honesty, and hot-water system, because this place could be a hidden gem.

Three days wasn't nearly enough, and I hope to stay longer when I come back to the country as soon as I can. My sister, brother-in-law, one-year-old niece, and I all felt comfortable here. The staff were friendly and always ready to help. I loved my stay and highly recommend the place.

The hotel has so much charm, with layers of wood, stairs, and little roofs set around two pools. It was lovely throughout, and the room had the best mattresses we've had since arriving in Thailand two weeks ago. Everyone working here was friendly and cheerful. We absolutely loved it.
