The Connect Chiang Mai

The neighborhood wasn’t ideal for a nearby market, since the closest one is 1 km away, and the towels were old. Still, for the price, the value was awesome. I stayed four nights and liked the clean, spacious room, balcony, friendly staff, and how quiet it was. I used Grab to get here and into the city center, which was convenient.

The host was super friendly and helpful, and the house dog was so cute it almost gave me diabetus. The rooms were clean and really comfortable, and the Wi-Fi was super fast. Absolutely lovely place. If you get to Chiang Mai, this is where I’d stay!

The one clear plus was that the place was clean. For me, though, it was only okay for an overnight stay, and I wouldn’t return or recommend it. The mattress was rock hard, and the bedding was uncomfortable too. The sheet was so thin you could see the mattress pattern through it. The ensuite shower never got warm, even after I asked for it to be fixed, and there’s only a cold water supply in the ensuite. The building has terrible acoustics, with a lot of echo. You can hear dogs yapping at all hours, other guests talking in their rooms, and people on the wooden stairs. There was also plenty of road noise from passing traffic and noise from the airport. It’s about 4 miles from the southern edge of the old city, in the Hang Dong District. Even though it’s near the airport runway, getting to the terminal isn’t any more convenient than from elsewhere in the city. There were no tea or coffee making facilities. The fridge was very noisy, and the coffee shop never opened during our weeklong stay. Staff were okay, but nobody spoke English, which may be why the hot water issue was never fixed. Payment was cash only, as is common practice across SE Asia. The TV only had Thai channels, with poor reception on all six. I wouldn’t stay more than one night.

The Connect Chiang Mai worked well for me as a budget stay with a vehicle. It’s convenient for food, grocery and convenience stores, and the airport, and there’s ample parking inside the property. I stayed one night and was impressed by what they offer at this price. The room was spacious and had the necessary amenities, and I particularly liked the bathroom’s minimalist design. The coffee shop downstairs served good coffee too. A few handy additions would be a soap dispenser and hand towels by the sink. There’s no elevator in the three-story building, so keep that in mind if you have large luggage and will be using the stairs.
