Villa Duang Champa

The barking dogs next door carried on through the night, and I ended up wearing headphones. Housekeeping wasn't good enough, the towels were poor quality, and the breakfast choices seem to have gone downhill. We used to get breakfast included, or eggs and toast were available. This time we were charged 250 baht each for coffee, a banana, and a croissant, which felt expensive. We stayed four nights this time, though we've come here many times over the years with family and friends. It's a charming French colonial-style building in the heart of the old town, with spacious rooms and comfortable twin beds. The shower was adequate. We asked to leave three suitcases in storage for a week while we did the Hong Son Mae loop, and were told that was fine. On our return they asked for 300 baht, which is unusual in all my travels, even when I've not stayed at the place. We won't return because of the dog noise, poor housekeeping, and substandard breakfast.

The hotel's colonial style is lovely, and the staff were nice. We stayed five nights in January '26. There was live music, but it never got too crowded on the nights we were there. It's on a busy road, though I enjoyed that from the balcony. The Sunday night market zone gets lively, and being right near the centre of Chiang Mai old town made temple visits and shopping easy. I'd stay again.

We came for the live music rather than to stay, and it was fantastic. As a musician, I was blown away by the different acts. We liked it so much that we came before dinner and returned afterward, staying until closing. Drinks were reasonably priced and the atmosphere was great. Definitely recommend.

Windy made our evenings and stay so memorable. He was welcoming and kind, and such a joy to meet. The space itself was beautifully designed and incredibly romantic, with the atmosphere and energy I'd hoped to find in Thailand.
