What's Up Chiang Mai - Hostel

The staff were up for a laugh and gave me some great food suggestions. As a solo backpacker from the UK, I thought this hostel was fantastic: very clean, with a pool and a bar serving 50-baht beers. Really cute place at a good, affordable price. It's very clean, and all the workers are really sweet. They provide sunscreen, snacks and pool towels, and having a pool is a big plus. There are hostel-style shared rooms and private rooms that don't cost much more.

The pool is what makes this place worth it, it's super nice. The personnel were polite and helpful, even though it wasn't especially warm. I liked the hostel's lively but quiet area, and the dorm met good standards. One problem was the lavatory just outside the door: people chatted there late into the night and made too much noise. There aren't signs asking them to keep quiet, so I'd recommend putting one up.

The staff were friendly, and I did get a partial refund, but the hostel itself is kept to a very low standard despite how it looks. The shared bathroom was messy, with people's things scattered around, and the showers were falling apart, with no hot water or pressure. Bedrooms were cramped and really hot. The upper bunks were tedious and dangerous to climb, and my bed light didn't work. The pool was green. You can find much better hostels in Chiang Mai for less.
