Milin Guesthouse

We slept incredibly well here, thanks to the quiet and a very comfortable mattress. The owners are super nice, and we rented a scooter from the guesthouse. It takes about 10 minutes to reach the city. We preferred staying here to the city centre and would definitely recommend it.

We spent 3-4 weeks at Alex and his family's home and felt at home there. It’s a quiet, safe area near nature, with caves, temples, and other interesting places to explore. Downtown is about 10-15 minutes away by bike. The room was clean and nice, and there was plenty of outdoor space to unwind. Since we worked remotely, we often borrowed bikes to visit good coffee shops nearby. Alex and his family were kind, flexible, and quick to respond. It was always fun chatting with Alex, who knows a lot about Chiang Rai and Thai culture and history. The daily breakfasts were fantastic, and we appreciated the laundry service. We’d definitely visit again.

We had a spacious, clean room and a good shower and bathroom. Breakfast was a highlight, different each day and sometimes Thai, just right to start the morning. Laundry was quick and cost a little extra, less than at other places we stayed. The guesthouse is a bit outside the centre, but Chiang Rai's attractions are spread out too, so it wasn’t a problem, especially with the competitively priced scooter we rented. It was in great condition and took us all over the area. The host speaks great English, knows a lot, and couldn’t have been more welcoming or helpful. At 5:30am he drove us to the bus station for a very reasonable price and packed us lunch for the long onward trip. The service was the best we had in Thailand, and it felt like a home away from home. For the price, this guesthouse is a must in Chiang Rai. One small thing, we’d expected daily bin emptying and fresh towels from places at a similar price, but the host more than made up for that. At night, the lanterns come on, and on a moonlit evening the setting feels magical. Milin Guesthouse has five double rooms with patios out front, plus a dorm room for four. Alex built it from scratch around the idea of welcoming travellers from anywhere for a pleasant cultural exchange, and I loved that concept. He and his wife and two children are incredibly friendly and accommodating. Alex is great to talk with and can help plan trips around Chiang Rai. Bicycles and motorbikes are also available to rent. The little room is cozy, with a towel folded into an elephant or swan on the bed. Breakfast is homemade, tailored to dietary needs, and includes tasty exotic fruits Alex brings from his farm. It’s a little outside town, but easy to reach by Grab.
