The Phufa Waree Chiangrai Resort

The location worked well for my conference at Mae Fah Luang university: very close to campus, though a bit far from the city and the airport, where most tourist attractions are. I booked through the Agoda booking app without any problems. I stayed five nights in a standard double room. It had enough space and was clean and tidy. The staff were helpful and attentive, room service was good, and the cleaning ladies were very polite. The bathroom was good, with shower gel, shampoo, and toilet paper provided. Bring your own toothbrush and soap if you need them. I would have liked a facial tissue box in the room. I could hear the next room’s television through the wall, but it wasn’t too disturbing. The pool seemed clean and well maintained, though the changing rooms didn’t seem to get much use. Free parking was available. Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of variety and continuous refills. There’s also a cafe where you can buy lunch, dinner, and snacks, though it’s a bit pricey. Within walking distance, I tried They Wish Ramen and Xanas Roasted Duck Rice and Noodle, and both were very good. Several 7/11s and convenience stores are also nearby. There’s a large night market nearby on Mondays and Thursdays, as I remember. Public transport is limited, and there isn’t much traffic on the roads. I enjoyed my stay at Phufawaree resort very much. I didn’t have anything worth complaining about, and would come back if I return to Chiangrai. I can recommend it to others.

The slippers in my room were in awful shape, and housekeeping didn’t replace them. The hotel feels really old, with basic amenities that often fall below average. Even the toilet roll is treated like tissue paper. I’d put it closer to a two-star place.

The room was a decent size and the location worked well, close to shops and the Thursday night market. But it wasn’t clean to a good standard, and the furniture felt old despite the grand-looking lobby. The Wi-Fi kept dropping, which was a pain.

I was in town for a university conference. It’s a bit out of the city, but the area was quiet and pleasant. There’s a 7/11 and a Lotus mart nearby, plus a local night market, so getting what I needed was easy.
