Baan Kaew Mongkorn

We came as a group of 14 and were given four houses or chalets. Two felt like authentic Thai homes, while the two newer ones were plain but decent. The main building has rooms upstairs and a large dining area below. The other cabins are spread around 30 to 50 meters away, which could be tough for older people with walking difficulties. There’s space for at least five cars. Nights were cold, but the beds were comfortable. The hot water wasn’t consistent, though it was bearable. Call the caretaker when you arrive. We booked through airbnb as “4 charming cabins in the mountain,” and they could arrange things like water and breakfast. Our breakfast was fried rice and porridge. If those aren’t to your taste, you can ask the caretaker for something else or make your own food in the kitchen. This is a good option for groups of more than ten who want to stay in a traditional local house. If you’re after luxury amenities, a proper hotel would suit you better. There are a few good restaurants nearby at economical prices, and I’ll add them to this review. There are two entrances. Coming from Chiang Mai city, Google Maps may take you to the closer, narrower, more dangerous route, past an American school. The roads at the other entrance are better, so continue farther before turning in.

Terrible stay. The room looked nothing like the photos and was stuffy, smelly, and dirty. I couldn’t sleep there. I regret booking through Agoda and losing 2,600 THB. Such a disappointment.

It’s quiet and has a nice atmosphere, with plenty of privacy.
