We booked online as non-Thai residents and paid about 420b for two adults and one child, which felt like very good value. I might not have felt the same if I’d paid some of the other prices I’ve seen mentioned. We arrived at 5pm, when it was quiet enough to walk around peacefully. The tram safari was nearly full but didn’t feel cramped, and the kids enjoyed it. The animals looked healthy. We skipped the shows apart from the fountain and light display, which our child loved.

The tram guide was funny and kept the ride interesting, the only thing I liked. Otherwise, the visit with my family was really disappointing. The zoo was small and absolutely not worth the ticket price. The service was very bad, and some security guards were rude. The parking lot was far away, with no shuttle to the entrance, which felt dangerous for older people and young kids. Cars were parked over the lines and nobody was managing them, leaving even less space. We wanted to see nong Ava, but the room was too crowded. There should be a limit on visitors. The Ava mini show needs better organization and a bigger viewing area. People had to stand on chairs, which was dangerous. The animals were kept in very small cages and looked sad and lonely. There were two elephants on the safari tram. One seemed very sad and stressed, and their space was tiny and horrible. The black panther paced back and forth panting, which didn’t look good either. As a Thai person, I don’t think the foreigner ticket price is fair. If you want more tourists, lower the price instead of raising it. Please take better care of the animals and organize the crowds better.

Even with only about an hour to visit, we got two good tram tours totaling roughly 30 minutes and saw every animal advertised. They were easy to see and active, so the Chiang Mai Night Safari felt like good value and delivered what it promises. The dancing shows and fountain displays add to the atmosphere and round things out, even if you don’t have much time. The main snag was the queueing. There isn’t much signage or structure, so on a busy evening people mostly organize themselves, which leads to confusion and occasional disagreements. Clearer lines would help as visitor numbers grow. Prices follow a dual-rate system, with local rates displayed in Thai and higher international rates charged at the counter. Foreigners working and living in Thailand can show a valid work permit to get the Thai rate, which seems fair and is useful to know beforehand. An enjoyable visit for the price, with a lot to see in a short time.

The tram ride made the night for us, getting to watch animals up close in their natural setting was something special. Chiang Mai Night Safari was easy to navigate, clean, and welcoming for families, with friendly staff and a smooth visit from beginning to end. One of our best experiences in Thailand, definitely a 10/10 and well worth visiting in Chiang Mai.

We spent a full day here, and the kids especially enjoyed seeing the animals roam freely. The grounds are well maintained and have safety measures in place. The tiger area felt crowded, though, and short on space. There was little information at the entrance and no maps. Parking and access could be better for young children, older visitors, and anyone with mobility needs. Still, a fun family outing.
