Hern Lhin Natural Resort

I don’t have any photos because it wasn’t a memorable stay. The hotel was okay, and I liked the spacious, vintage-style rooms. It felt a bit scary with so few guests in such an isolated spot. The pools were dirty, and service was confusing and poor, with what seemed like just two people running the place. Getting into Chiang Mai city isn’t easy. It’s far away, there are no shops or restaurants nearby, and even if you’re lucky an online cab can take an hour to arrive. I’d suggest it if you want a peaceful nature getaway outside the city, but not if you want to explore Chiang Mai.

It could be a lovely hotel in a beautiful spot, but the nearby street is noisy, and there’s no way to get the rooms completely dark. I had to sleep in a mask, and the tap water smelled of rotten eggs. The staff made the stay much worse. Nobody speaks English, and they seemed to spend the day making noise around guests. The woman sweeping the floor played a podcast on speakerphone. When I asked her to turn it off so I could focus on work, she demanded I go with her to the manager, then stopped sweeping. The manager just shook her head and walked away. Some staff also bring noisy children or play annoying cartoons on their tablets. They don’t seem to understand that guests staying so far outside the city want peace and quiet, and there’s no way to explain it to them. No taxi comes up here, so you need your own transport. On top of all that, it’s really expensive compared with other hotels nearby. The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at.

The room was dirty and the bathroom didn’t work. The owner made us stay in that room even though its door couldn’t be opened from the inside, leaving us locked in. The owner doesn’t speak or understand English. We booked a single bed on Agoda, but she said it was a twin bed. There were lots of stains on the bed, pillowcase, and bathrobe, so bring your own if you decide to stay here.

The room wasn’t clean, and the customer service was really bad. It’s not worth spending your vacation time here.
