Siam Center Hotel

We returned after a decent stay here four years ago, but this time was a mistake. The room needed a lot of maintenance: the walls needed a proper clean and fresh decoration, and the bathroom needed replacing. The air conditioning only circulated air without changing the temperature much, and the fridge, hair dryer and bedside light all failed to work. I can’t recommend it.

The room was very large for three people, but the old design was hard to overlook. The washbasin and bathtub were aged and didn’t work properly, and there was mould on the wall paint. The bathroom was disgusting. We stayed three nights over Christmas 2018, and something was missing each day because the cleaning lady hadn’t left enough supplies. On the first day there was no large towel, although they knew the booking was for three. The second day, some shower gel and shampoo were missing. On the third day the same cleaning lady again left out a small towel, despite knowing there were three of us. At checkout, the receptionist called another cleaning lady because the one who had serviced our room was on leave. They said they needed to check whether anything was missing before returning our deposit. The inspection took about 15 minutes, then they called reception and accused us of taking a small towel. We explained that the large towel, some shower gel and shampoo, and the small towel had not been provided during our stay. Only then did they apologize for wasting our time and trying to cheat us out of our deposit. This old-fashioned hotel deliberately leaves out items like towels and shower gel, then gets a chance to deduct them from your deposit. Beware.

The hotel is close to the night market, just a short walk, and there’s a good choice of food at the hotel too. I’ve just returned from my Thailand vacation. My room was a bit messy because of me, but the view was nice, and a higher floor would be better. One issue: the phone charging point was far from the bed, and the plug was too close to the light switch, so the charger wouldn’t fit.

Good location and the Wi-Fi worked well, but the rooms are really old. The carpets were stained and looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in years. The rooms, and really the whole hotel, smelled bad. There are better options nearby.
