The owner was so welcoming, and because he and his lovely family live in one of the buildings, the guesthouse felt like a home to return to. He can suggest places to visit and eat, and the drinks at his garden cafe are not to be missed. The Thai buildings are gorgeous, set in a beautiful garden that feels quiet and peaceful, right in central Hua Hin and only a few minutes’ walk from the beach. Inside, there’s traditional furniture and pieces collected from overseas. The rooms are kept immaculately clean and have air conditioning, comfortable beds, powerful hot showers and fridges. It’s a real gem.

I’ve stayed at this excellent little guesthouse many times before, and I’ll definitely come back. It’s close to the beach, restaurants and shops, and offers great value for money. It feels more like a homestay because the family who run it live in an adjoining part of the building. It’s a traditional wooden Thai home with rooms full of character. The rooms are clean and have everything needed, including strong air conditioning, a fan, enough furniture, comfortable beds, and a good shower with hot water and strong pressure.

The renovation work was the worst part of my stay. At 8:20 in the morning, two men began hammering right outside my door. It went quiet around 9, just as I was nearly asleep again, then at 9:40 the impact driver and hammering started up once more. My room also looked unfinished: the ceiling had been repaired but left rough, and paint was chipped in several places. The fridge had no temperature control and partly froze my things. For a similar price, there are much better places. I'd stay somewhere else in Hua Hin.

The rooms are small but clean, and the price is good. The location is great, though Google Maps has it wrong: it's pretty much behind Father Ted's. I'd stay at Baan Somboon Guesthouse again.

It was quiet enough for a good night's sleep, while still being close to restaurants and shops. A great place for a few days in Hua Hin.
