Mandarin Lodge

The location is great, and my room was clean and well equipped. I got two towels, one soap, water every day and clean bedsheets, and the AC was OK. At check-in I only spoke with the staff for about five minutes, and they seemed kind. I was in room 27, where the lack of walls between rooms made it extremely noisy. There was only thin wood, so conversations and other activity next door sounded as if they were in my room. One man was snoring and coughing, another couple argued, all after midnight until 3 AM. People also came back late from the bars and talked outside their rooms, often with beer and cigarettes, so sleep was hard. It isn’t the owner’s fault, but they could put up a notice asking neighbors to be considerate after 10 or 11 P.M. Apart from that, it could be a good place. Maybe another room would be a completely different story.

The communal area has lovely, very oriental decor and ornaments, and there’s a little pool area that’s big enough to relax in. The location and staff are great. They leave two bottles of water at your door each day. I absolutely love this place and will be back. Thanks to all the staff for a wonderful stay.

The sea view was nice, and the room was clean, with a comfortable bed, good Aircon and good cleaning and room service. But after three nights, I came away feeling the stay was only okay, and I wouldn’t return. The room fell well short of what I expected. The furniture was old and needed repair, the TV didn’t work, and there was no desk or table to work at. Oddly, the washbasin was in the bedroom rather than the bathroom, and there was no mirror, so shaving was a challenge. The rooms are about 80m up the road from reception and the swimming pool, above a bar/restaurant. I paid 3,270B, with no breakfast included. In my honest opinion, I’ve stayed in much better hotels for the same or less money.

The area is nice, and the rooms have a traditional chinese feel. They might not be the cleanest.
