Nice Residence Hotel Huahin

This was the worst hotel experience I've had. It wasn't what I'd expect from a 4 star hotel, and there seemed to be no management at all, just reception staff who unfortunately couldn't make decisions. The room layout meant I couldn't avoid the air conditioning while sleeping, so I had to cover it with a towel. The TV only had Thai channels. The toilet wasn't cleaned as well as it should have been each day, and there was no hand soap. A small table's glass broke because the table was old and unbalanced, but they charged me 2000 Baht. I was too nice and honest with them, and that was my mistake. After all of this, I had to leave after 10 days, and they wouldn't refund me.

The beds were comfortable, but the place is old and needs some care, especially the gym area.

This was my third stay here. I used to love the value, the pool, the kids' playroom, and the location near the beach, but I'm never coming back. We booked three rooms with family and friends for the Huhain Marathon. Around 7 PM the power went out and wasn't back until after 11 PM. I understand the outage itself may not have been the hotel's fault, but their response was completely unprepared. There wasn't even a candle or emergency light. The lobby was pitch dark, and my two-year-old was getting more and more cranky from being tired. Staff said they couldn't open our room because the electronic locks didn't work without power. Locals later told us outages are common in the area. Knowing that, why wasn't there basic backup lighting in the lobby and emergency stairwells, or a way to unlock room keypads? I worry about what would happen in a real crisis, with guests possibly stuck in elevators or forced down dark emergency stairs. My wife and I waited in the car to keep our child from getting hurt in the dark lobby. Even by 9 PM, there was no backup lighting and no real effort to help the guests who were stuck. We had to find another hotel urgently that late, while our suitcases stayed locked in our room. The next morning, no one offered an apology or a refund. The blackout may not have been their fault, but the lack of responsibility and disregard for guests was. We ended up running the marathon without sleep. If we'd been able to get into our room, we could have rested.

I spent a month here. The rooms have no drawers, and although the bathroom has a spacious counter, it doesn't have drawers either. The lighting was what bothered me most, it was dim everywhere, especially in the bathroom when I was trying to shave. Internet was a little unreliable, mostly because the router is in one spot outside in the hallway. The entrance makes a good first impression, with a spacious lobby, seating area, pool, fish display, and nice decor. I'd stay again for the atmosphere, and those smaller issues could be adjusted.
