Vawa Guesthouse

The hosts were so lovely, and the whole stay felt wonderfully peaceful. Our room was spacious, clean, and really comfortable. We had such a nice time here and would recommend it without hesitation.

Vawa is in a really quiet, pleasant area, though you’ll need a scooter to get into town. Grab is another option and costs very little. We stayed four nights and had a great experience. The house has its own character and was well equipped, including the kitchen and bathroom. You can do laundry there too, which was a big plus. If we return to Kanchanaburi, we’d stay here again.

The garden and interior were lovely, and I could see the owner has a good eye for decor. That made it all the more disappointing that basic details spoiled what looked like the most promising stay of our trip. We picked the place for my wife and me based on the photos and positive reviews, expecting an idyllic cottage break. Instead, it was frustrating. We barely slept. My wife kept getting static shocks from the sheets and quilt, and I found the fabric unpleasant to touch. We spent more time tossing around than resting. The air conditioner also rattled when I raised the fan to three bars, so I had to settle for a lower setting. The shower was another problem. The water pressure was so weak, and the heater seemed stuck at maximum. With so little water coming through, it got too hot, and I had to switch the heater off and on several times. My wife, who normally avoids cold showers, got so fed up that she turned it off. After a day in the sun, neither of us could get a proper shower, and we felt uncomfortable. We arrived late, but by morning I could appreciate the well-kept garden. We still just wanted to check out as soon as possible.

The host was amazing, and it’s a lovely place. For me, the only issue was that the bathroom drained slowly. Otherwise, everything was perfect. It’s one of the best guesthouses in Kanchanaburi, though you may need a motorcycle or car to enjoy the area.
