MONTANA Hotel & Hostel Phuket

The room was spacious and very comfortable, and the cleanliness was excellent. Boy was such a kind and friendly staff member. After I checked out, I lost my motorcycle key. She found it and returned it to me, which was very trustworthy of her.

This was the worst nightmare of a stay, and I absolutely don't recommend the place. The receptionist, the cleaning lady, and the whole situation were awful. The cleaning lady also screamed at me. When I arrived, the receptionist didn't know about my booking, then noticed it later. I'd written at least twice asking for a lower bed because of my back problems, but he put me in a mixed dorm on the third floor, larger than my reservation specified. I asked for a room with fewer people, so he moved me to another room where the bed was up in a cabin with a really bad ladder. Then I saw a girl's bag inside. He said it was a guest's girlfriend's clothes. After I showered, I closed the door to change. Someone started banging on it and shouting in Thai. When I opened it, a woman appeared, screaming and threatening me along with a man. I stopped getting changed and told the receptionist. He laughed and said she was his sister, but said nothing to her. This woman stayed all the nights in a male dorm with that man, who was maybe European. Neither of them had a key. It was a full 6 male dorm, so there were 7 of us. On the first night, they came into the dorm drunk at 3 am, screaming and pushing my ladder away so I couldn't get down. There was also a party near the dorm making noise all night.

The location is very reasonably priced, and I loved my stay. The staff were extremely friendly, and the hard-working housekeeper, P'Pui, could clean the room daily. Nearby you'll find eateries, fruit shops, massage parlors, pharmacies, and 7-11s. It's about a 5-10minutes walk to the beach and close to public bus stops. The hostel is near the main road on a small street, so Grab/Bolt cars can pull over and pick people up easily. The shared hostel toilets were very clean, with one on each floor. There's good Wi-Fi and a lounge area with free water, coffee, and tea. The room came with a toothbrush, lotion, soap, tissue, and toilet paper, though sadly no hair dryer. Bars in the area mean you can hear some muffled music at night. There's no lift, but the building is short, about 3 floors tall. At check-in, a 500 baht deposit has to be paid in cash and is returned at the end of the stay. I'd stay here again when I'm in Phuket.

The location was perfect for us, with Karon beach just a five-minute walk away and lots of shops and restaurants nearby. The owners were kind, and the room and bed were nice. Very good hotel, and I'm sure I'll come back. See you next time!
