Room Actually

Traveling alone? I’d avoid this place. The rooms are spacious and it’s close to the beach, with a 7/11 across the road and a hospital and pharmacy nearby. But reception closes by 5 pm, toiletries aren’t provided, and although room service comes daily, staff enter without waiting for a response. I arrived from Bangkok after midnight, and my child had become sick during the journey. The reception was locked. I called the emergency number posted on the door but got no answer, then went to the (weed) shop outside to ask if anyone had a key or another contact. No luck. My child was vomiting uncontrollably by then. I eventually reached someone at the number listed on Google, and they casually said the check-in message must have gone to the wrong number. They had left a key and instructions in an envelope, meant to be sent to me by Whatsapp, but had sent them to the wrong number. It was a traumatic experience. With reception closed, I couldn’t even get an extra bottle of water. Thankfully, I managed to reach a team of doctors, who came to the hotel and treated my child.

There are plenty of restaurants around, including places with karaoke. The beaches are about a 10-minute walk away, and the cleaning lady was lovely and did a really thorough job. The internet, though, was really bad. We ended up using the Wi-Fi at the restaurant next to the hotel.

I had to shorten my stay because of unforeseen circumstances, but the hotel wouldn’t refund the unused days. That policy felt unfair and put me under financial strain. The room wasn’t properly clean, with visible dust and a musty smell. Some advertised amenities didn’t work or weren’t available, and the Wi-Fi kept cutting out, which was especially inconvenient because I needed a stable connection for work. Staff were generally indifferent and unhelpful. Requests for basic services were delayed or ignored, and the poor service added to the problems with the facilities. I regret booking here and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, stress-free stay.

The rooms and bathrooms are tiny, the lighting is very dim, and the furniture is old. On top of that, they ask for a 1000 thb cash deposit. I can’t see what in those shabby rooms would need protecting from damage. Avoid.
