Apsara Beachfront Resort and Villa

We liked the trips we booked through the hotel. They cost a bit more, but the food and vehicles were much better than on tours I’ve taken on earlier visits to Thailand. The Apsara is a little remote, which is part of its appeal, and most guests seemed English or English-speaking, unlike many places in Thailand where Russian guests seem to predominate. We loved nearly everything and are coming back next month. It had everything we wanted for a holiday.

The rooms are well equipped. I had a deluxe room, and as a solo traveller, I’d feel completely safe staying here again, even at my current age of 56. I’ve worked in the hotel industry, and this place is far better than the 4* hotel I worked at back in the UK. From the warm welcome and complimentary Thai tea and face cloth at check-in to the great food, beach and staff, I loved it. I’m definitely coming back.

After a few weeks travelling around Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand, we wanted somewhere to relax before going home. Apsara Beachfront Resort and Villa was a great fit. Our villa had a pool shared between its two rooms, a living area and an outdoor shower. It sits across a small lagoon from the hotel, and tuk tuks will take you to or from it when you need one. There are several pools and bars, and a huge stretch of beach just steps away. The quiet location a few kilometres from Khao Lak town has its trade-offs. You need a car, scooter or pickup taxi to get into town. We rented a scooter and liked having the freedom to come and go. Residents can also use the resort’s water sports and surf gear for free, and it was always in use. Families with young kids might want more water slides and the like. For an adult group looking to put their feet up, this is a lovely place to enjoy the good life.

We chose this place for our honeymoon in March instead of the Maldives, and I have no regrets at all. From start to finish, our stay on the villa side was incredible. The setting, atmosphere, staff and all the small thoughtful touches made it special. I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels, but nowhere that compares. This is easily my favourite hotel, and I’ll definitely be back. If you’re considering it, go ahead and book.
