The room itself was clean, with fresh linen and towels, and the air conditioning cooled it well. Still, the mattress was so hard that I couldn't sleep comfortably, the frame creaked whenever we moved, and the pillows were too firm. There was only one per person, which wasn't enough for me. The bathroom had no proper ventilation, either, so smells from the shower drain lingered and eventually reached the common area and bedroom. We were traveling from Hat Yai and needed somewhere to rest before an early ferry to Koh Lanta, hoping to avoid the queues. This was the only hotel option in Khlong Thom district, about 10 km from the turn-off junction for Koh Lanta. I know running a small hotel in an out-of-the-way crossroads town can be tough, with tourists passing through toward Koh Lanta, Krabi, the Emerald Pool, or farther south to Hat Yai, depending where they're coming from. Still, honest feedback can help the owner improve and bring in more guests. The outside looked weathered and needed attention. Inside, the corridor to our first-floor room had worn, moldy walls that could use fresh paint. The unit had two bedrooms and a small shared area, and although it was clean, the beds made it hard to rest. Service could be better too. The proprietor came across as somewhat unwelcoming and rigid, and not very customer-focused. We got there at noon and were told the room wasn't ready. After a long drive from Hat Yai, we politely asked if the kids could use a toilet. At first we were sent to the petrol station restroom. After some hesitation, we were allowed to use the office toilet, which we appreciated, especially since we didn't know the area and it was pouring. When we were told to come back later for check-in, we pulled into the sheltered spot beside the office to get clothes from the car boot. The proprietor asked us to move because it wasn't designated guest parking. I understood the parking rules, but felt a little more empathy would have been appropriate in that situation. I'd probably give it 2 out of 5, and wouldn't come back unless these issues were addressed.

Aaron was so helpful and kind, he even sorted out my minivan ticket, and I'd definitely stay here again. The room was comfortable and nice. The location worked well too, close to the minivan depot for Koh Lanta, with a snooker hall and a lovely cafe serving nibbles just around the corner.

I had a great stay, with good service and a nice atmosphere. There's a small market nearby, and you can get around to nearby places by bike taxi or rental bike. The hotel is close to the main spots, so I'd suggest it to travelers heading to Emerald Pool and Hot springs.

The host was outstanding, answered all our questions, and shared great tips about the area. Our room was clean and had a small balcony. I'd definitely recommend the place.
