The resort is a little outside Khon Kaen proper, which makes it easier to avoid most of the city traffic when heading out to explore. You'll probably want your own vehicle, and the owner is happy to point you to reputable rental companies. A taxi from Khon Kaen train station costs 150-200 baht depending on traffic, and a bit less from the air conditioned bus station, station number 3, or the airport. The owners, an English and Thai husband and wife, helped us plan routes through the silk villages around Chonnabot and around Nam Phong national park. They also recommended an excellent village with lots of floating restaurants serving great food. If you like, they're the sort of hosts who make you feel at home; if you'd rather have privacy, they're practically invisible. The beds are huge, with firm but very comfortable mattresses. We slept better than anywhere else in Thailand so far on this trip. There's good street food and plenty of variety around the main highway, about four minutes away. I'd highly recommend this resort as a base for exploring Khon Kaen province while staying close enough to pop into the city for a few hours.
