Khong Chiam Orchid Riverside Resort

The riverside setting makes this small, secluded tropical resort feel especially relaxed. The rooms are spacious and charming, though they look old. Hot water, air conditioning, and the TV can be unreliable, but staff respond quickly and kindly when you ask them to check. The service throughout is exceptional, and the friendly, attentive team seems to run the resort as a family business. You really do feel like a guest here. The location is hard to beat, with riverside rooms and dining in a peaceful setting. The food is delicious and reasonably priced, with a good mix of Thai and Western choices. I especially loved the homemade German sausage platter. You can eat indoors, outside on the airy patio, or by the river. Breakfast is a lovely start to the day, with generous portions. There isn’t much for kids beyond the clean, refreshing pool, so I’d especially recommend it for couples and older guests.

The service was outstanding, and breakfast was nice. It’s peaceful, with beautiful views and cozy vintage-style rooms.

We planned on just one night, but after trying the restaurant we stayed a second night to enjoy more of the resort. We’d been tired from a day of driving, and were pleasantly surprised by both the menu choices and the food. The cordon blue and pork rib-eye were each first class. The Mekong river view and private location make this a real gem. Our room was fresh and very clean, with a wonderfully comfortable bed. Breakfast was tasty, beautifully presented, and had plenty of first-class choices. We’ll stay here again, and the owner has a winning resort.

Dinner was the highlight for me. The steaks and pork stuffed with cheese were so good, and the cheese omelette at breakfast was really yummy. Breakfast came with the room. We’ll definitely come back and stay longer than one night. The river view is amazing, and the porch is a lovely place to sit and read. The room was comfortable and clean, with a kettle for coffee and a mini fridge. The pool gets full sun, but there are good umbrellas if, like me, you’re scared of too much sun. The air conditioning wasn’t as cool as we wanted, though we were there on literally the hottest day of the year. Even the drive in was beautiful, along a road out of town, over the river, past cute little houses and a big pen of water buffalo. And that view! 😻😻😻
