Chang Buri Resort & Koh Chang Hillside

January 2026: We stayed at Chang Buri Resort in a Seaside Deluxe Room w/ Bathtub and were 100% happy with the choice. It was excellent value. The grounds, pool and lounge area are outstanding, and everything is very well kept. Our room had a queen bed, which is rare in Ko Chang, a nice balcony, great A/C, a safe and fridge, and good Wi-Fi. Breakfast was very good: omelette bar, hot Thai dinner food, toast, cereal, yogurt, waffles and salads. The location was outstanding. There's no beach right in front, so no crowds, but the main beach with restaurants and bars is an easy walk for the evening. Two 7-11s are within a block, one across the street and one in the building below the resort. There's a grocery store half a block away, and a bank and ATM in the building below. It's at the south end of the main strip of bars and restaurants. If you don't want to rent a scooter and risk the crazy hills and bends on Ko Chang's roads north and south of this area, this is the place to stay. There's a small bar in the pool lounge area, an infinity pool, and lots of little animal statues, planters and big trees. Free kayaks and life jackets are available too. The staff were amazing, happy, polite and respectful. They promptly and courteously helped with room concerns and fixes, arranged a car rental efficiently, and can book tours. We'd definitely stay here again if we return to Koh Chang. The rooms are basic, but really nice, clean and well appointed. For the price, it's great value, though anyone looking for a five-star "mint on your pillow" experience should look elsewhere.

We were here for about two weeks. The staff were lovely and always willing to help when we had a problem, and I liked that the seaside was more of an entry into the water than a beach. You didn't have to walk far to swim, and there were no 'sea lice' like at the shore. The room-cleaning got worse over time. They mostly used a broom and didn't clean thoroughly, leaving quite a lot of dust and sand, which was unpleasant. The wall outlets were odd too, and wouldn't hold our chargers properly, even the laptop charger. We hadn't run into that in other hotels. All in all, a solid place to stay in Ko Chang.

The staff were super, and the hotel is lush and good value. Some areas are a little tired while others are exceptional. It's split between Chang Buri and the hillside across the road, but there's sea access and good pools. What more do you need?

The Hillside was across the road from the beach and had very few facilities, but it was shown at the same map point as Chang buri. That made it look like one resort when booking, and I think they should be treated as two separate properties. Our room smelled of mould, and we could hear both the neighbours and passing traffic. The safe was already locked when we arrived; a staff member opened it in seconds with a key, so it didn't feel completely secure. There was no CCTV in the corridors either. We raised some issues on arrival and were told a manager would call, but nobody contacted us during our four-night stay. I wouldn't book again.
