The room was dirty, and there were cockroaches in the bathroom. The sink leaked, spraying dirty water from the trap onto my legs whenever I used it. They mixed up our booking with someone else's several times. We went over it with them and showed the booking ID, as well as the different first and last names, so I really don't understand how that kept happening. The room wasn't cleaned during our stay until I specifically asked. They should at least have emptied the rubbish, especially since we couldn't flush toilet paper. We ran out, but luckily I had brought an extra roll. The air conditioning worked well. I definitely wouldn't recommend staying here.

The booking was cancelled on the evening before I was due to arrive, with the message, “we don’t have any room for you”. Since it was high season, finding another place was difficult and the whole thing caused me a lot of stress. Be careful booking this place through Agoda. They confirm it, but that apparently doesn't mean anything. This was my first bad experience in Thailand, and my first negative review.

NB: This review is for Fisherman’s House/Huts, not Island Lodge. The listing was wrong, and I can’t change it. On Google Maps, Fisherman’s House/Huts appears as TUKTUK/FAIR LAWN. The location is lovely, tucked into the jungle behind the main strip. The main bars, restaurants and White Sands beach are only a few minutes' walk away, and the owner was friendly. There are 32 raised wooden bungalows in Thai style, with different sizes, comfort levels, facilities and prices. I paid 500 baht per night in high season for Hut 12, which only had a fan. It had a large balcony with seating and a hot water shower. The attached kitchen was locked, though maybe you can use it for an extra charge. When we arrived in February, reasonably priced places were hard to find anywhere on the island, and the location made up for the problems inside. Still, Hut 12 was the poorer cousin compared with Hut 11 next door.

The room was acceptable, though not especially good quality, and the pillows were big and hard. The windows had a GREAT view of mountains covered in tropical forest. Our friends in the next room had trouble with the shower and sewage smells.
