Koh Chang Gala - Hostel

We spent 3.5 weeks here with our almost 3-year-old daughter and had a very good stay overall. We were lucky to get room C1 with a sea view, and would recommend it. The setting was peaceful, and the beach was beautiful. Our favorite swimming spot was just left of the resort, where steps lead into water that gets deep right away. At high tide the water was incredibly clear, and the beach felt like paradise. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby and a small café close by. It was much calmer and more enjoyable for us than crowded White Sand Beach. The resort is very old and worn down, but the lovely seaside location made that easier to accept. Breakfast was very basic, around 2/5. After breakfast the restaurant stayed closed for the rest of the day, so there was no lunch, dinner, or bar service. There are lots of good nearby places to eat, so it wasn't a major problem. Mosquitoes in the room were the biggest challenge. With the wall colors and interior, they were nearly impossible to spot and kill, and many nights we woke up with 10-15 new bites. A mosquito net over the bed would make the stay much more comfortable. The windows in room C1 couldn't be opened. One night the ceiling fan fell during the night, but luckily nobody was hurt. Staff quickly replaced it with a standing fan, and it turned into more of a funny travel story than a serious problem.
