Mai Pen Rai Guesthouse

The staff were awesome, and the room was lovely and clean. There were lots of monkeys around. It's pretty close to a noisy neighborhood, so keep that in mind if you can't handle noise.

The pool is a good size, looked after well, and faces the street. It’s easy to walk to the night market and food stalls after dark, and the bars on walking street are nearby too. The place was clean and modern, and reception staff were friendly with good English. My only gripe was one of the four pillows was thick and uncomfortable. I’d recommend it.

We’re looking to book somewhere else as soon as possible. The room is spacious, clean, and has a comfortable bed, and there’s an okay pool outside. But ours smelled like drains, and the balcony door was badly fitted, so noise and bugs came in. It’s on a busy road beside a club that stays open all night, so keep that in mind if you’re tempted by the bargain.

The Isan food had a good taste and the price was reasonable. I only ate there, didn’t stay at the guest house. It’s an ordinary sort of place to try.
