Koh Lanta Amantra Lake View Resort

We ended up staying at Amantra Lake View Resort because the argument over a refund dragged on for hours and it was already 10 pm. The man on the phone refused to return our money and became even more aggressive when we asked. Earlier, after we described the problems with our first room, he said everything worked and accused us of making a fuss, though he wasn't even there in person. The woman at reception had directed us to a QR code, saying she could no longer speak English, even though we'd been talking in English before. The room we'd been given didn't match the website photos, which another review had also said looked AI-generated. There was blood on the bed frame, torn wallpaper, and a door that couldn't be locked, with cracks and gaps where insects could get in. A replacement room was offered the next day. Its door locked properly, so it was acceptable, but it also didn't look like the photos. Afterward, we got a complaint through Agoda, where we had booked, claiming we'd damaged the room by kicking it and behaved inappropriately toward staff. We immediately sent Agoda photos of the rooms and pointed out other negative reviews. Agoda contacted the accommodation and dismissed the complaint. We also filed a complaint about the host's behavior. We'd read reviews before booking and chose to give the place the benefit of the doubt. We shouldn't have, since the same thing happened to us. Other reviews describe the host replying to criticism and blaming guests, and that's exactly what we experienced. I expect the host may blame us in response to this review too, which would only make the point stronger. When the same thing happens to different guests, it looks like a pattern. I question whether this is acceptable behavior for a host.
