I can’t really review the hotel itself, since I stayed across the road at its sister property, Ananda Lanta Resort. Our hotel had no restaurant, so I came over for breakfast. If you want food you can actually enjoy, skip it. The eggs looked and tasted as if they’d been made last week. When I asked for hot water, a worker came over and scooped some out of the machine. Items kept running out, and staff just shrugged instead of restocking. They call it complimentary breakfast, but it felt like a test of my patience. I’ve had better from a vending machine at 3 a.m. It’s impressive how badly they managed to mess up such a basic meal.

The pool was great after a hot day, the room was clean and tidied daily, and the staff made us feel welcome. The location is also excellent. That said, we’d read the negative reviews before coming and found most of those points were accurate: uncomfortable beds, a clogged shower, a noisy bar out front, and rude guests reserving loungers and then disappearing. We didn’t have breakfast there. So it depends what matters most to you.

It’s basic, but fabulous value for the money. The property sits right on the water and has a clean, stunning pool. The rooms have what you need, and I’ll definitely come back and recommend it.

We booked the basic room because the other categories were sold out, but got the worst one in that category. The view of the street was basically a tin shed and a water tank that loudly refilled every hour. Inside were exposed wires, awful green hospital-like floor tiles, and a mix of yellow and white lighting. There was no kettle or hairdryer. The bathroom tiles were broken, and the old air conditioner struggled.

The room was a great size and the location is spot on. Being right on the beach with a pool is hard to beat. The air conditioning wasn’t quite enough for us Kiwis who aren’t used to the heat.
