Baan Chainarong

The room was comfortable and peaceful, and the prices were easy on the budget. It’s about 1-2 km from the Old Town, handy to reach while still feeling quiet and away from the crowds. There’s a self-service laundry right across the front, and motorbikes are available to rent, though you do need to know how to ride. It’s not on the beach, but it suited us well for a low-key, relaxing stay.

We had a great time by the pool and absolutely adored the very sweet cats. It’s a lovely base for exploring Koh Lanta. The staff spoke only a little English, which was a small challenge, but I’d still recommend staying here.

The owners’ kindness and the quiet, nature-filled grounds made this our favorite place to stay during five months of travel in Southeast Asia. We spent 18 nights at Baan Chainarong and loved it. The price for what you get felt unmatched anywhere else on our trip. Our room had what we needed, with a strong shower, very comfortable beds, and a porch. It never felt busy, and the pool was very clean. The owners were friendly and arranged onward travel, laundry, and a moped for us, all of which worked out really well. The location was ideal for us, about a two-minute drive from some incredible restaurants, including the one beside 7/11. Without a scooter, or if you don’t like walking, bear in mind it’s a 10-15 minute walk to shops and restaurants.

Having your own transport makes this place feel like a little paradise. Otherwise, you’ll need to rent a motorbike, which costs 250 B for 24 hours, or walk about a mile to the village.
