Baan Laanta Resort & Spa

This is a small, family-run hotel, and the staff are consistently friendly. The rooms are bright and spacious, with lovely sea views. Breakfast is generous and tasty, with a good choice of a la carte dishes. The place could feel much more welcoming with some care and maintenance. Quite a few things are broken and haven’t been repaired, the AC is loud, and the outdoor area, especially the pool, could be made cozier. The sunbeds have noticeable defects and aren’t being maintained. Since the hotel is somewhat secluded, renting a scooter is useful for exploring. Taxis on the island cost many times more than elsewhere in Thailand.

It’s set back from the road, so the resort feels private, though the beach and restaurants are only a short walk away. The views are gorgeous, the rooms comfortable, and there’s a lovely pool. The long trip from Krabi airport to this resort near the bottom of the island was the one drawback, so I’d stay longer to make the journey worthwhile. Would recommend, and I’ll return.

We had a really lovely stay here during our honeymoon around southern Thailand. The staff were incredibly helpful and surprised us with honeymoon gifts, including a complimentary bottle of prosecco and ice cream for my wife, who doesn’t drink. The beaches nearby were breathtaking, and we watched amazing sunsets each night from there or the hotel courtyard. The location was quiet but still within walking distance of plenty of restaurants, bars and shops.

The small number of rooms gives the hotel a warm, family-like feel, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Some areas are a bit dated, but the charm makes up for it. We loved the delicious breakfast and the fantastic location. A monk from a nearby temple sometimes visits to offer a free meditation session, which was a really cool and unique experience. There are lots of good restaurants nearby, including Pad Thai Rock n Roll, an Indian restaurant and Black Swan. The beach is about a five-minute walk away, with great bars for the evenings. We had a wonderful time.
