Monkey Island Resort Koh Mak

We left after one night because getting any sleep was impossible. The room was listed as having a quiet street view, but it shared a wall and structure with an on-site bar run by the same property. Photos show only a thin wall between the room and bar, with the bartender working right on the other side of the bedroom wall and no proper soundproofing. At about 8:30 PM, very loud music, a live concert, and crowd noise began and went on for hours, coming straight through the wall. Reception told us they wouldn't stop the music and it wasn't their responsibility if we couldn't sleep. We had to leave and book somewhere else to rest. The listing doesn't disclose the room's location or noise level, which is misleading. We wouldn't have booked if this had been made clear.

The owners are friendly and helpful, and the bungalows are spacious and generally well kept. It's a nice, small hotel with bungalows. There is a lot of old abandoned stuff and plastic trash in the surrounding area and some parts of the property. If that doesn't bother you, it's a good choice.

The place is in a great location and has lots of potential, though it needs more care. The woman working there is amazing and puts in so much effort to keep everything running, but she needs more help.

Pan and Micky, the owners of Monkey Island, were so welcoming and did a lot to help us arrange trips and massages, plus some fun evening entertainment. Our hut was comfortable and had a stunning ocean view, perfect for relaxing. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. We had a fantastic stay, loved our time there, and can't wait to return.
