PP Red Tuna Hut

Be aware that pick-up and drop-off cost an extra 700+700 baht. Phi phi iceland transfers are only available by boat, and PP Red tuna is about 6-7km away by a steep walking route, with boat taxi as the only option. I booked through Agoda and paid in advance. I usually choose hotels with 4+ star reviews, and this one had a 4.8 rating, though I’ve since read many bad reviews. My bad luck. When I arrived at Phi Phi and looked into transport, I was surprised to learn the pick-up and drop-off would cost an extra 1400 baht, more than my room charge. I decided not to go to the hotel and booked another one nearby.

The island location works if you want to stay away from the busy center, but getting around adds up: a one-way taxi boat was 700-800 baht in the daytime and around 1200-1500 or more at night. We paid 1800 baht a night, and I’ve had much better stays for half that. The room hadn’t been cleaned properly before we arrived, and the sheets felt oily from detergent residue. The woman at reception was also unwelcoming. I wouldn’t have rated it this low if it hadn’t cost so much.

The rooms are simple, but the price felt fair, and the little fishing village around the resort has a cool feel. There are a few nice bars nearby, all with a really friendly vibe. We loved the food too, and it was very cheap compared with prices back home in western countries. Mr Tuna is every bit as entertaining as people say, and comes across as a genuinely likable person. Getting to PP Red Tuna Hut means paying extra for transport, so factor in that added baht. Once there, though, I found it quiet and peaceful. The food was delicious, and the rooms were decent for the cheapest rates on the island. If you want a calm break on Phi Phi Island, this could suit you.
