Blu Monkey Phi Phi Island

The smell of sewage was awful outside and reached every floor inside, apparently because the cleaners kept opening the windows. The hotel is noisy at night too, since the front is open to people passing by, and there’s no lift, only stairs, which may not work for everyone. Our room was in unacceptable shape: stained walls, very worn bathroom fixtures, mould all over the ceiling, and no fan or hand towels. The bed was so hard it felt like sleeping on the floor. During our stay, cleaners only made the bed and replaced the shower towel and toilet roll. They didn’t clean the room or change the sheets. The location is good, and the woman at reception was very nice and friendly, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The rooftop has nice views, a washing machine, board games, and other things to use. Rooms were okay, though they could use a little TLC, and there’s a reasonably priced laundry next door that can wash things within 15 minutes. It’s about 10 minutes from the beach and within 15 minutes of the pier, far enough away that the music didn’t bother us. There’s only one room key and one access fob, which is awkward if people come and go separately. Reception is staffed from 7am to 7pm; after that you use WhatsApp, and the entrance is shut and needs the fob. The room water comes in a reused glass bottle refilled from a corridor dispenser, but it was warm.

The room was nice, the bathroom was okay, and it’s close to the center. But the sewage smell was so strong and constant that it really spoiled the whole stay.

We were happy with our three-night stay. The beds were very comfortable, and when we found the TV wasn’t working, they swapped it for another unit straight away.
