Silver Cliff Bungalows

I stayed for seven weeks, and this was my favourite place in Thailand. It’s remote, which makes it a great break from the tourist scene, but it’s hard to reach without a scooter. Grab one at the port if you come, and you can explore the whole island. We arrived in the evening after some searching, and the staff were immediately so nice that we felt at home. The bungalow is simple but really nice. There are a lot of stairs, so keep that in mind, though it’s absolutely fine if you can walk normally. We had the silver cliff 1 bungalow. The listing photos make it look a bit outdated, but they don’t do it justice; it’s actually nice, and the view is amazing. The beach water was lovely and refreshing, and there were some very sweet dogs around who wanted cuddles. We also had friendly gecho visitors that kept the flies away. We didn’t see any cockroaches, though you are in the Thai jungle, so insects come with the setting. If you don’t like bugs, Thailand may not be for you 🙃

We spent 24 nights here, which gave us plenty of time to see what it’s like. The view is stunning, and that’s what you’re paying for. But the property doesn’t seem well maintained, and basic things like outdoor lights and proper paths would make a big difference. It’s in the middle of nowhere, so arrange a scooter ahead of time. When the owner’s son opened our bungalow door, cockroaches scattered away from the light and under the bed. We killed a few and stopped keeping food in the room, but that didn’t solve it. Sometimes they were even in bed with us. The rooms aren’t cleaned as part of the stay. You’ll also have cold showers only, and Wi-Fi works in the common area, meaning the restaurant, but not in the bungalows. The restaurant food was okay, nothing special. The owner is an older woman, and we got the impression she was tired of running the place. Cleanliness was poor overall. The view is beautiful, but I wouldn’t call this a clean accommodation.

A peaceful, safe place to spend time with someone you love, with a great view and very good Wi-Fi. The owners were friendly and helpful. The restaurant food was tasty, and you can also use the kitchen if you want to make something yourself. It’s in a national park, with waterfalls and some of the best beaches in lovely surroundings. The Covid rates were reasonable: 300-500 Baht per night or 3000-5000 Baht per month. Highly recommend!

For what I paid, this room was a pretty good deal. It was very basic, with no AC and just a fan aimed at the bed, and the shower had no hot water. The balcony view was perfect, and the Wi-Fi was really good. I don’t think you can get a better place for the money. I’ll be back, and might try one of their rooms with AC next time.
